Whether it’s the woman who raised you, the mother of your children, or other special women in your life, we can all agree on one thing – these women deserve to be celebrated this Mother’s Day. These women have encouraged us, guided us, inspired us, or simply smiled and sent us on our way. Mother’s Day is all about honoring these mothers and all the wonderful things they do.
This year, instead of just scribbling your name on a card and tossing it in the mail, why not do something sincere and memorable? To help get you inspired, here are some suggestions on how to make this Mother’s Day one she won’t forget.
Treat Her to a Special Meal
Whether it’s your wife or your mother, she’s probably spent hours in the kitchen cooking up some of your favorite dishes. This Mother’s Day, give her a break and return the favor. You don’t have to go crazy with five courses, but just the fact that you cooked her something special will mean a lot. Check out some of these recipes for ideas.
Not a master chef in the kitchen? That’s okay – you can still serve up something special. Order takeout from her favorite restaurant and serve it up in a special way.
“My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it.” ~ Mark Twain
Complete Her ‘Honey Do’ List
Ever notice that there are always tasks around the house that need to get done, but never seem to? Let this Mother’s Day be the day you help her catch up on some of those chores.
Ask her to list several chores around the house that she would love to see completed, and take care of them. Does a railing on the stairwell need to be tightened? Maybe a door is slightly unhinged? Does she need to hang a picture or shelf somewhere?
If she’s reluctant to give you a list of things to do, surprise her. Take it upon yourself to cut the lawn or weed the garden. Do a quick run to the store and purchase ‘must have’ groceries or restock her kitchen for her. These little things go a long way, and will really be appreciated.
Dazzle Her with a Special Piece of Jewelry
It might seem automatic that you would want to purchase a piece of jewelry for your wife or mother, but don’t just go to the nearest jewelers and grab the first thing that catches your eye. Put a little thought into it.
Check out a local jeweler or browse online for that special necklace, ring, or pair of earrings that mean something. Maybe it’s her favorite color. Or has a pendant or charm that symbolizes a special moment in her life. The more personalized the jewelry, the more she’s going to love it. It’s not how much money you spend, it’s the thought that counts.
Can’t find that perfect gift? No problem!
There are plenty of other options that will make her day extra-special – and some don’t cost a thing! Here are a just a few ideas:
1) Clean her car
2) Get her a massage or a day at the spa
3) Take her to a play
4) Upload music to her phone
5) Get her a new kitchen knife
Just remember, moms don’t expect you to give them the stars and the moon for Mother’s Day. They just want to be recognized in some small way. So take a few moments out of your day to say ‘thanks’ for all that she does.
Because, really, every day should be Mother’s Day.
